Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont acknowledged fan frustration over the team trading franchise superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he stood by the move, saying there are no plans for the team to relocate from Dallas.
Dumont, speaking publicly for the first time about the trade, expressed sympathy with fans who feel hurt but emphasized that Luka is a “Mav for life.” The owner stated his goal was always to help the team return to the NBA Finals and achieve championship success.
He also addressed rumors of moving the team from Dallas to Las Vegas, where his family’s business is based. Dumont unequivocally denied any plans for relocation, reiterating that the Dallas Mavericks will remain in their home city.
The trade brought back 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, who was seen as a key addition to help the team regain its winning form. Dumont emphasized the importance of “culture,” character, and dedication in achieving championship success.
Regarding the team’s willingness to pay for Luka Doncic’s supermax contract worth nearly $350 million, Dumont denied any concerns about cutting costs. He framed the trade as a risk-allocation decision, stating that signing someone to the supermax was not an issue if it fit within their budget.
