A newly discovered asteroid, 2024 YR4, is heading towards Earth but the risk of impact is relatively low. Estimated at 2.3%, the chances are neither great nor urgent. However, a worst-case scenario would still be catastrophic. The asteroid measures between 130 and 330 feet in length, capable of devastating a major city or causing a tsunami that could hit coastlines. This is comparable to the Siberia asteroid strike in 1908, which decimated nearly 800 square miles of forest. A modern asteroid impact could result in a chemical, gas, or nuclear accident, posing a significant threat to human safety and global security.
