Musk’s OpenAI Bid Rejected by Rival Billionaire Altman

Elon Musk has made a $100bn (£80bn) bid to take over OpenAI, but rival billionaire Sam Altman has rejected the offer, calling it “tactics” to slow down his company. The move comes as part of a decade-long feud between Musk and Altman over AI technology.

Musk has launched several lawsuits against Altman and OpenAI, including a failed attempt to take over the start-up in 2017. However, the bid was rejected by Altman, who claims Musk is trying to block OpenAI’s plans to spin out its profit-making division into a standalone company.

The two billionaires have a history of clashing on AI-related issues, with Musk previously accusing OpenAI of abandoning its original plan to operate as a non-profit offering open access to AI technology. The feud has escalated in recent weeks, with both parties making public comments and filing court documents.

Altman said Musk is “trying to slow us down” and believes the billionaire’s actions are driven by insecurity and a desire not to be happy. However, OpenAI has hit back at Musk, alleging that his attempts to take over the company are motivated by a failed attempt to acquire it in 2017.

The rejection of Musk’s bid comes as OpenAI continues to raise billions of dollars from investors, including Microsoft, which has invested $13bn. The company has also made significant progress with its AI chatbot ChatGPT, which has been used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
