Sony Apologizes for 24-Hour PlayStation Network Outage

Sony has apologized for a global outage that took PlayStation Network offline for nearly 24 hours over the weekend, impacting most areas of its services. The cause of the issue is unknown and was only described as an “operational problem.” The downtime affected account management, online play, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct.

Some PS5 owners also reported issues playing games offline due to a failure in game permission and license checks. Additionally, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds limited-time open play test was disrupted by the outage.

As compensation for the issue, Sony has extended five extra days of service to all existing PlayStation Plus subscribers affected by the downtime. However, this offer does not apply to players of free-to-play games like Fortnite and Roblox, who do not require a PS subscription to access online gaming services.
