NASA has partnered with digital manufacturing company Protolabs to accelerate product development using advanced technology. The project, which is part of the Artemis mission, aims to explore permanent settlements on the moon and Mars. To achieve this goal, NASA is experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) to create Computer-Aided Design (CAD) designs for its space launches.
Recently, attendees at the PowerSource Global Summit identified the requirements for a generatively designed part that can hold a flask capable of capturing volatile gases released when the moon warms up. The project’s goal is to significantly reduce development time from years to just 36 hours.
By leveraging AI and digital manufacturing technology, NASA has successfully cut its development time from design to finished product in half, demonstrating the potential for innovative solutions in space exploration. This technological advancement will be crucial in furthering NASA’s mission to explore and settle the moon and Mars in the future.
