The New York Knicks edged out the Atlanta Hawks 149-148 in an overtime thriller, marking their best record through 54 games since 1996-97. All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 44 points and 10 rebounds, while Jalen Brunson added 36 points.
Despite leading by as many as 18 points earlier in the game, the Knicks blew a sizable lead to tie the score at 137-137 with two seconds left. However, they managed to hold on for the win, thanks in part to a clutch pull-up jumper from Brunson with 11 seconds left in overtime.
The Hawks’ star Trae Young had a monster game, scoring 38 points and 19 assists, but was limited by Knicks’ defense, particularly Mikal Bridges. Young’s last shot attempt was rushed, allowing the Knicks to secure the win.
“We fought through, regardless of what we did, positive or negative,” said Brunson, who will be starting in the All-Star game alongside Towns. “We came out with a win.”
