Ford Warns of Job Cuts If Electric Vehicle Subsidies End

Ford CEO Jim Farley has warned that his company could be forced to lay off employees if electric vehicle manufacturing subsidies are ended. According to the New York Times, Republicans’ potential repeal of Biden-era legislation would put “many of those jobs at risk”. Ford has invested heavily in factories in Ohio, Michigan, and Tennessee to produce batteries and vehicles.

The automaker recently announced plans to produce a three-row all-electric SUV at its Lorain County plant. Additionally, Ford invested $1.5 billion into its Ohio Assembly Plant in 2022, creating 1,800 new jobs. In 2027, two new electric pickup trucks are expected to be introduced: one based on the California Skunkworks Team’s platform and another assembled in Tennessee.

The potential end of subsidies would significantly impact Ford’s operations, highlighting the importance of government support for the electric vehicle industry.
