The Houston Rockets returned to action after a two-day break, playing their second consecutive game at home. The team had been on a road-heavy schedule, playing 10 of their last 15 games away from home. However, they were able to bounce back and secure a win over the Phoenix Suns.
Despite being without key players Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and “Dick” Grayson Allen, the Suns put up a strong effort, but ultimately fell short. Kevin Durant scored 37 points on 15-22 shooting in his record-breaking 30,000-point milestone game. His collection of teammates, including Bol Bol, Royce O’Neale, Rick Richards, Ty Ty Washington, and Collin Gillespie, also contributed to the Suns’ success.
The Rockets, however, struggled overall but found their rhythm late in the game. Alperen Sengun led the team with 17 points on 7-12 shooting, while Tari Eason scored 25 points and had 9 rebounds. Amen Thompson recorded a triple-double of 18 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and 2 steals.
The Rockets’ defensive performance was also notable, particularly from Dillon Brooks, who held Kevin Durant to just one three-pointer in the final minutes of the game. Jalen Green’s efforts were less efficient but still crucial, as he attempted offense and kept the scoreboard moving despite some intense scoring droughts.
The team’s rebounding and assist numbers were positive, with 32 assists overall. They also won the battle on the glass, particularly on offense, where they outrebounded their opponents 17-11. The win marked a much-needed improvement for the Rockets, who will face another back-to-back test in the coming days.
The All-Star Break approaches, and with games against the Warriors looming, the Rockets hope to maintain their momentum without having to rely on late surges like tonight’s win.
