Firefly Aerospace’s Lunar Mission Runs Smoothly So Far

Firefly Aerospace has confirmed that its Blue Ghost spacecraft is functioning well as it heads towards the Moon. The company stated that a planned trajectory correction maneuver was cancelled due to the spacecraft’s accurate performance. With Earth now in its rearview, the mission team is on track for a successful Lunar Orbit Insertion in just a couple of days.

During its 25-day stay in Earth orbit, Blue Ghost captured stunning footage of our planet from one of its onboard cameras. The spacecraft is now en route to the Moon, where it will spend 16 days in lunar orbit before landing near Mons Latreille on March 2.

The mission, part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services program and supporting the Artemis campaign, aims to establish a long-term human presence on the Moon’s surface. Firefly Aerospace is set to deploy 10 scientific investigations and technology demonstrations, transmitting valuable data for future crewed missions.

According to Jason Kim, CEO of Firefly Aerospace, his team is now focused on completing their on-orbit operations, landing softly on the lunar surface, and paving the way for humanity’s return to the Moon.
