Ford Motor could face widespread job losses if US subsidies for electric vehicle manufacturing are ended, according to CEO Jim Farley. The company has invested heavily in factories producing batteries and electric vehicles across Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Farley warned that repealing Biden-era legislation allocating billions of dollars in subsidies would put “many jobs at risk.” He also criticized President Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on cars and components from Mexico and Canada, which Ford imports for its Mexican-made Maverick pickup and Canadian-made engines.
“A 25% tariff across the border will blow a hole in the US industry,” Farley said. “It gives free rein to foreign companies like South Korean and Japanese firms that import fewer vehicles subject to tariffs.”
