Celebrities Protest Ye Over Antisemitic Remarks in Viral AI Video

A viral video depicting celebrities protesting Kanye West’s (now known as Ye) antisemitic comments has sparked criticism from Scarlett Johansson, who called for regulatory legislation on AI.

The AI-generated video features over a dozen celebrities wearing a T-shirt with a middle finger and Star of David, referencing Ye. The black-and-white footage is set to an AI remix of the Jewish folk song “Hava Nagila.” The video was created by Guy Bar and Ori Bejerano, who work together at an AI company in Israel.

The creators made the video in response to Ye’s recent antisemitic remarks and T-shirt sales featuring a swastika. Ye’s X account and website have since been taken down. Bar aimed to use Jewish celebrities’ likenesses to convey that “enough is enough.”

Johansson raised concerns about the video, calling it a “misuse of AI,” despite its message. She expressed concern over the potential for hate speech multiplied by AI, saying it’s a greater threat than individual accountability.

Bar supports “responsible AI” and discussions on its ethical and legal impacts. He stated that the video aims to start a conversation about the rise of hate speech, rather than misleading or exploiting anyone. The creators believe that art has been used for social change throughout history and now AI is a new medium for impactful storytelling.
