Blue Origin, the Jeff Bezos-backed rocket firm, is reportedly preparing to cut hundreds of jobs as part of a cost-cutting effort. According to Bloomberg News, citing people familiar with the matter, the company may lay off up to 1,000 employees in an effort to focus on increasing rocket launches.
The layoffs will be addressed in an all-hands meeting with CEO Dave Limp on Thursday morning. The move comes after the firm debuted its New Glenn rocket just a month ago, following three CEOs and numerous delays.
Blue Origin has been facing increased competition from SpaceX, which has grown into an industry juggernaut during this time. The company’s decision to cut costs and focus on launches is seen as a response to these challenges.
