Scarlett Johansson Calls for AI Regulation Amid Viral Antisemitic Video

Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson has spoken out against the misuse of artificial intelligence, following a viral video featuring A.I.-generated versions of herself and other Jewish celebrities criticizing Kanye West.

The A.I.-generated video shows Johansson wearing a white T-shirt with a Star of David on her hand, which flips in the direction of an unseen person. The clip also features A.I.-versions of several other high-profile Jewish celebrities, including Drake and Steven Spielberg, before concluding with A.I.-Adam Sandler giving a middle finger to the camera.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Johansson denounced the misuse of AI, saying it poses a greater threat than hate speech from individuals. She called for legislation limiting A.I. use, citing concerns over its potential impact on society. The actress has previously been targeted by A.I.-generated fake content, including a company using her likeness without permission in an ad and being duped into hearing a voice similar to hers in the ChatGPT system.

Johansson’s comments come amid growing scrutiny of West’s recent Super Bowl ad featuring swastikas and hate speech. His talent agency dropped him following the incident, with many calling for greater action against antisemitism and online hate speech.
