Google Unveils Enhanced Smart Home Features for Google Home

Google has introduced several new features for its Google Home smart home assistant, including a redesigned media controls system, improved user interfaces, and enhanced security options.

The revamped media controls feature allows users to easily control their music playback with an intuitive arc-shaped volume controller. The interface also includes shortcuts to “Stop casting” and “Open [app],” as well as a 30-second rewind button. The design is inspired by Android media notifications, with vibrant artwork and colors that provide a modern look.

In addition to the new media controls, Google has announced a “Member access” feature that enables users to share their smart home with trusted individuals without granting them full control. Users can choose between customizable Member access options, including roommates, kids, or babysitters, when adding new people to their Google Home setup.

Other updates include the introduction of the Google Home Gemini Extension, integration with Pixel Watch 3, and enhanced widgets for Android and iOS devices. These features are expected to enhance the overall user experience and provide more granular control over smart home settings.

While some features, like the revamped media controls, are already available on other platforms, they will be rolled out live to Google Home users in the near future. The Member access feature is scheduled for release “coming soon.”
