Drone Attack Hits Chernobyl Nuclear Site, Blames Russia

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has blamed Russia for a drone attack that struck the protective shell covering the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine early Friday. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that the team at the Chornobyl site heard an explosion coming from the New Safe Confinement, which protects the remains of the nuclear reactor that exploded in 1986.

According to Zelenskyy, a “Russian attack drone with a high-explosive warhead” struck the shelter. However, Russia has denied any involvement. The incident is currently under investigation, but initial assessments show significant damage to the shelter. Fortunately, there were no casualties and radiation levels remain normal and stable.

The attack comes as world leaders are meeting in Munich, Germany for the Munich Security Conference, where the future of Ukraine and its ongoing war with Russia will be a top item on the agenda.
