Hyundai has begun manufacturing electric vehicles with native NACS ports, marking a first for the manufacturer and its competitors. This move is significant as it allows existing Hyundai EV owners to access Tesla’s Supercharger network using their car’s CCS1 port.
Previously, only Tesla offered Supercharger access with its own charge ports. However, other manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors, and Rivian have also partnered with Tesla to use its charging technology. Now, Hyundai is catching up by providing a free adapter to convert CCS1 ports to NACS plugs.
The adapters will be available for free, provided owners can demonstrate their car’s VIN. Owners can order the adapters once the website becomes live in March. This offer is notable as it stands out from competitors like Ford and General Motors, which charge $200 and $225 respectively for similar adapters.
Starting next month, Hyundai EV owners with CCS1 ports will be eligible to receive these free adapters, marking a significant shift in the company’s approach to charging technology.
