Astronomers have discovered that objects from the closest star system to our Sun, Alpha Centauri, are constantly escaping into interstellar space and traveling towards the Milky Way. According to a new study, asteroids and comets in this system are drifting away from their parent stars and making the long journey to our Solar System.
Researchers estimate that about 1 million large particles have already reached our planet over the past few decades. This massive influx of objects is expected to continue at a rate of one object every 10-15 years, with the majority of these objects being small asteroids or comets. The study’s findings provide new insights into the dynamics of the Alpha Centauri system and its interaction with our own Solar System.
