Canadian Tourist Loses Both Hands in Shark Attack Off Turks and Caicos Beach

A 55-year-old Canadian tourist suffered severe injuries, losing both hands, in a shark attack while taking a photo in the ocean near Thompson’s Cove Beach in Turks and Caicos. The incident occurred on Friday morning near the shore.

According to local reports, the woman attempted to engage with the shark when it suddenly lashed out, biting off her hands in one strike. Her family witnessed the attack before her husband jumped into the water to fend off the predator.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the woman to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre for treatment. She was later flown back to Canada for further care. The shark is believed to be around six feet long, although its species has not been confirmed.

The attack took place at approximately 10:30 a.m. on February 7 near Blue Hills, Providenciales. Officials from the Royal Turks and Caicos Police and environmental authorities confirmed the incident.
