Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) launched a transparent website to track government cuts under his leadership. However, the site has been found to be insecure and vulnerable to editing by anyone due to its reliance on an unsecured database.
According to two anonymous web development experts, DOGE.gov is built on top of a Cloudflare Pages platform that is not hosted on official government servers. This means that the code running it can be easily accessed and modified by third parties, including individuals who have written into the database.
The experts claim to have discovered at least two database entries that are visible on the live site, including one that reads “this is a joke of a .gov site” and another that says “THESE ‘EXPERTS’ LEFT THEIR DATABASE OPEN -roro.” The website’s creator had hastily deployed it after Musk announced his efforts to increase transparency.
Despite its initial appearance as a mirror of Musk’s personal social media posts, the DOGE.gov site now shows additional statistics about the U.S. federal workforce. However, concerns remain over the site’s security and potential for manipulation due to its vulnerable database.
