Marcus Stroman Reiterates Starter Role Amid Yankees Trade Rumors

New York Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman has reported to camp after missing the team’s first two days of workouts, saying he is ready for 30-plus starts and won’t change his role despite not being projected as a starter. The 34-year-old pitcher, who was included in trade rumors with an $18.5 million salary, said he prioritized getting his body ready for the season.

Stroman’s comments were met with reassurance from manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman, who described him as “vintage ‘Stro” due to his competitiveness. Stroman is entering his 11th major league season and has a two-year contract with a conditional third-year option.

While the Yankees are unlikely to deploy a six-man rotation, Cashman acknowledged that anything can happen in spring training. The team is hoping to come to terms with Boone on a contract extension, which would keep their manager beyond this season.

Stroman expressed his love for the clubhouse and teammates, saying he has nothing but positive relationships with everyone. However, the trade rumors surrounding him have raised questions about whether he will throw another pitch for the Yankees again. Despite the speculation, Stroman remains confident in his abilities as a starter and is focused on giving 30-plus starts this season.
