The University of Texas women’s basketball team secured another victory against a ranked opponent, defeating No. 13 Kentucky 67-49 on Thursday. The win marks the Longhorns’ ninth straight win and their fifth consecutive triumph over a ranked team.
Senior forward Taylor Jones led the team with 15 points and eight rebounds, while junior Kyla Oldacre scored 19 points off the bench, including 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Oldacre’s performance was instrumental in the Longhorns’ dominant win, outscoring Kentucky by a 42-24 margin in the paint.
Texas coach Vic Schaefer praised his team’s development of center Kyla Oldacre, saying she will fit right in with the team’s tradition of excellent big players. The Longhorns also outrebounded their opponents 45-28 and held them to just 29 points under their season-long average.
Oldacre, who transferred from Miami, is averaging 9.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game since joining the team. Her performance has been a key factor in Texas’ winning streak, which continues into next week’s matchup against No. 5 LSU on Sunday.
