Intel Avoids Trump’s Chip Deal, Stands Alone on China

US President Donald Trump has hinted at pursuing changes to the Biden-era CHIPS and Science Act, which includes provisions for China. However, Intel Corp., one of the biggest US chipmakers, appears to be taking a different approach.

The CHIPS and Science Act requires US companies to work closely with Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), their largest supplier. But a joint venture between Intel and TSMC has raised concerns in Washington. The deal would give TSMC greater control over the supply chain, allowing it to dictate terms to US companies.

Instead of joining forces with Trump’s proposed changes or taking part in the TSMC venture, Intel is standing firm on its own. This stance may help the company avoid potential repercussions from both the Trump and Biden administrations.

The move comes as tensions between the US and China continue to rise over Taiwan’s sovereignty and technology trade. As a major player in the global chip market, Intel’s position on this issue could have significant implications for the industry.
