The top-ranked Oklahoma University women’s gymnastics team is set to take on No. 2 LSU in a highly anticipated meet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Friday at 8 p.m. The match is expected to be intense, with the two teams having a rich history of competition.
OU and LSU have met multiple times this season, including their last meet on January 11th, where OU emerged victorious with a score of 197.950-197.650. This won’t be the first time they face each other this year, as the teams competed in the Sprouts Farmer’s Market Collegiate Quad at the Paycom Center.
The two teams have a long history together, with OU leading 21-4 against LSU since K.J. Kindler took over the program in 2007. This rivalry has led to 14 NCAA finals or semifinals appearances for both teams during Kindler’s tenure.
This meet will be particularly interesting as Livvy Dunne, LSU’s star gymnast, is expected to compete after spending time at the Super Bowl and related events with her boyfriend Paul Skenes. Despite missing the last two meets, Dunne has been training hard and is poised to make a big impact in this match.
Both OU and LSU are well-rounded teams, ranking top-five in each of the four events. The Sooners lead on uneven bars and balance beam, while the Tigers dominate vault with an average score of 49.417. The teams’ overall scores are close, with OU averaging 197.746 and LSU averaging 197.400.
The meet is expected to be televised on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
