The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame has announced its list of 17 finalists for the class of 2025. The finalists include NBA legends like Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard, as well as WNBA stars Sue Bird, Sylvia Fowles, and Maya Moore.
From the NBA side, Anthony and Howard lead the group of nominees. Other notable nominees from the league include former All-Star forwards Marques Johnson and Buck Williams. Meanwhile, three-time NBA champion Heat owner Micky Arison is also among the finalists due to his contributions to the sport.
The Hall of Fame’s full class will be announced on April 5 in San Antonio during the NCAA Tournament. The selection process involved evaluating over 189 candidates, who were initially announced in December.
In related news, several teams have new financial outlooks for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell is expected to be a top contender for the head coaching vacancy at Florida State. Additionally, The Athletic’s staff will grade the seasons of all 30 NBA teams heading into the All-Star break.
Critics of Micky Arison’s inclusion in the Hall of Fame took issue with his statement that he has “won” three championships. However, Arison is a Heat owner who has been involved with the team since its early days. Other notable contributors to the sport, including those from the WNBA and college basketball, are also among the finalists.
