A$AP Rocky’s assault trial took an emotional turn when the prosecution team asked the jury not to consider his kids’ appearance in court during closing statements. The rapper, 36, is accused of firing a semi-automatic handgun at his former friend A$AP Relli in an altercation in November 2021.
Prosecutor John Lewin told the jury that Rocky’s family presence should not influence their decision, emphasizing that he needs to be treated like any other person. This warning came after Rihanna and their two toddlers, RZA and Riot, attended several days of the trial since its start on January 21.
However, the judge has now instructed the court to ignore the family members’ presence starting from this point in the trial. Rocky, who is facing up to 24 years in prison if found guilty, opted for a jury trial instead of pleading guilty to one of two felony charges.
Rocky’s lawyer Joe Tacopina claimed that the gun used during the altercation was a “prop gun,” and he accused Relli of fabricating his narrative. The prosecution team countered this by stating that the events leading up to the altercation were not complicated, and they asked the jury to rely on common sense.
