The New Orleans Saints have hired former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their new head coach. With Derek Carr leading the team at quarterback, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener serving as backups, there is a possibility that Moore may want to make some changes to better fit his offense.
Moore, a former passer himself, could look to either part ways with Carr or bring in an experienced backup who knows his system. Five former Moore passers are being considered for potential signings: Cooper Rush, Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton, Easton Stick, and Will Grier. With his connections to some of these players, it’s likely that Moore will look to bring someone he trusts into the room.
Rush, a 31-year-old quarterback who has been with the Dallas Cowboys since 2017, could be an attractive option for Moore. Rush played under Moore in 2022 and had eight starts last season when Dak Prescott was injured. McKee, another player connected to Moore, is still on his rookie contract with the Eagles but could become available in a couple of years.
Dalton, who has experience with both Moore and the Saints organization, could also be in the mix. Stick and Grier are long-time backups who have worked with Moore at previous stops. With Grier having been with Moore for multiple teams, he would likely be a top choice to bring into the Saints’ quarterback room.
The Saints’ decision to hire Moore as head coach sets the stage for potential changes to the team’s quarterback situation. With Moore’s coaching background and connections to several quarterbacks, it’s likely that the Saints will look to make some adjustments to their roster in the coming weeks.
