Siri Upgrade Delayed Due to Engineering Issues

Apple’s highly anticipated upgrade to its Siri smart assistant, a key feature of iOS 18, may be facing significant delays due to engineering problems and software bugs. According to people familiar with the matter, Apple is struggling to overcome these issues, which could postpone or limit the release of the upgraded Siri.

The new Siri will focus on being more personal and understanding context, allowing it to integrate with user data to improve answers to queries. However, Apple has not set a specific date for its release, and some features, such as email sorting for iPad and Mac, are still expected to arrive in iOS 18.4.

Apple is reportedly racing to finish the software, but delaying something that was teased in June until 11 months later may not be ideal. The company prefers to delay rather than deliver a product that’s not working properly.

The developer beta release is expected soon, which will provide clarity on exactly what’s happening with the Siri upgrade and other upcoming Apple Intelligence features, including a new style of picture creation in Image Playground.
