Blue Origin, the private aerospace manufacturer, has announced plans to lay off around 10% of its workforce, affecting approximately 1,000 employees. The company cited a need to restructure and reduce bureaucracy as the reason behind the layoffs.
According to an email sent by CEO Dave Limp to employees, the growth and hiring pace over the past few years led to increased bureaucracy, which negatively impacted focus on key priorities. To address this, Limp stated that the organization’s makeup must change to better align roles with executing core objectives.
The layoffs come after the successful launch of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket on its inaugural flight, just a month ago. The company was simultaneously gearing up for production and working on other projects like the Blue Moon lunar lander and orbital transfer vehicle.
Limp emphasized that the primary focus in 2025 is to scale manufacturing output and launch cadence with speed, decisiveness, and efficiency for customers. He acknowledged that significant staff changes had already occurred under his leadership, citing differences in leadership styles as a factor.
Despite the layoffs, Limp expressed confidence in the company’s future opportunities and stated that hundreds of new hires would be made this year. Blue Origin aims to become a stronger, faster, and more customer-focused company, consistently meeting and exceeding its commitments.
