Brighton Edge Chelsea 3-0 in Thrilling Win at Falmer Stadium

Brighton & Hove Albion secured their second win over Chelsea in as many weeks with a convincing 3-0 victory on Friday, moving up to eighth place in the Premier League table.

A moment of individual brilliance from Kaoru Mitoma set the tone for the Seagulls’ success, as he spectacularly plucked Bart Verbruggen’s ball out of the air before scoring the opening goal. Yankuba Minteh then doubled Brighton’s advantage, with the Gambian striker netting his second in the 63rd minute.

Despite being ahead at halftime, Chelsea pushed hard for an equalizer but could not breach Brighton’s defense. The visitors’ only notable chance came late on, when Tyrique George’s cross hit Adam Webster’s own post.

Brighton’s display marked a significant improvement from their previous match, which ended in a 7-0 thrashing to Nottingham Forest. Manager Fabian Hurzeler praised his team’s defensive solidity and timely changes in the second half, while Enzo Maresca acknowledged that Chelsea’s performance was one of the worst of his tenure.

The win keeps Brighton within touching distance of the European places and sets them up for a promising run-in. They will be confident when they travel to Southampton on February 22nd.
