UVA Beats Virginia Tech 73-70 Behind McKneely’s 22 Points

Isaac McKneely scored a game-high 22 points, leading Virginia to a 73-70 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Saturday. The Cavaliers’ victory snapped a three-year streak of alternating wins at home for both teams.

Virginia took an early lead with Elijah Saunders’ three-pointer before halftime, but Virginia Tech mounted a comeback in the final minutes of the half. The Hokies trailed by only one point at halftime, 40-33.

In the second half, Virginia outscored Virginia Tech 16-8 to take a 62-53 lead on McKneely’s three-pointer with 7:53 left. However, the Hokies refused to give up, and they narrowed the gap to 73-70 with just seconds remaining.

Ben Burnham’s missed three-pointer from the left wing sealed the win for Virginia, as Brandon Rechsteiner also missed a shot from straight on that would have tied it. The Cavaliers’ season series advantage over the Hokies now stands at 99-61, dating back to 1915.

Virginia hosts third-ranked Duke on Monday, while Virginia Tech travels to Boston College to face the Eagles on Tuesday.
