A 23-year-old Syrian suspect was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old Austrian boy and injuring four others in Villach, Austria. The attack occurred near food stands in the town’s main square on Saturday at around 4 p.m. local time.
The victims were all Austrian citizens, including two 16-year-old boys who sustained major injuries. Two adults, aged 28 and 32, also suffered minor injuries. A civilian with ties to Syria rammed the suspect with a car, causing him slight injury before he was apprehended by police without resistance.
Authorities are investigating if there is any connection between the attacker and the victims. There is currently no evidence linking the incident to terrorism. The suspect’s residence has been searched, and he will be questioned overnight. He had no prior contact with police and was in the process of seeking asylum.
