Microsoft Closes Windows 10 Beta Channel Just Five Months After Reopening It

Microsoft has shut down its Windows 10 Beta Channel, just five months after reopening it in an effort to test new features from Windows 11. The move comes as the operating system’s end-of-life approaches in October 2025.

The Insider Beta Channel was reopened earlier this year to backport Windows 11 features such as Copilot and minor additions. However, Microsoft will no longer be releasing new builds for Windows 10 through this channel.

Instead, users on the Beta Channel will be moved to the Release Preview Channel, where they can continue to receive updates. The Release Preview Channel is still being used to release Windows 10 builds, but it’s unclear if Microsoft plans to add more features to the operating system at this point.

The closure of the Beta Channel suggests that Microsoft may be winding down its efforts to deliver new features to Windows 10 users. Last year, the company announced a surprise recommitment to supporting Windows 10 through 2025. However, with only a year left before Windows 10 reaches end-of-life, it appears that feature testing is coming to an end.

Windows 10 users won’t be missing out on much from the closure of the Beta Channel, as Microsoft has only introduced a handful of new features through this channel, mostly designed to increase usage of Microsoft services. The move marks another chapter in the transition from Windows 10 to newer operating systems.
