Sheryl Crow Ditches Tesla to Support National Public Radio Amid Elon Musk Dispute

Singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow has sold her electric vehicle, a Tesla, as a symbolic protest against company founder Elon Musk. The proceeds from the sale will be donated to National Public Radio (NPR), which is under threat from President Musk.

In an Instagram post, Crow shared a video of her car being taken away after she waved goodbye. She captioned the post, saying “So long Tesla” and that it’s time for her to decide who she aligns with. The statement also mentioned that she hopes the truth will continue to find its way through NPR.

Crow has previously used her vehicle sales as a fundraiser for causes she supports. In 2011, she auctioned off her Mercedes car to raise money for schools in Joplin, Missouri, affected by a deadly tornado.

The decision comes after Musk’s criticism of NPR and his alleged alignment with Nazis, a vocal desire to destroy democracy, and opposition to the LGBTQ+ community. Crow dated Lance Armstrong, who has been critical of trans rights, in the past but wishes him well now.

Musk has also threatened to defund NPR and reassign its Twitter handle to another company. However, most of NPR’s funding comes from public sources, with donations like Crow’s making up 13% of its revenue.
