The US government’s ban on TikTok remains unresolved as the app has been reinstated on the Apple App Store and Google Play. The move comes after President Donald Trump’s administration delayed a ban on the social media platform, citing national security concerns over its Chinese ownership.
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has 50 days to sell its US assets or face the possibility of further restrictions. Even if a sale occurs, users may notice changes in algorithms and terms of service. The uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s future in the US has left many wondering whether it will remain available.
In January, the Supreme Court denied ByteDance’s argument that a ban on the app infringes on users’ free speech. President Trump then issued an executive order, halting enforcement of the ban for 75 days. The court’s decision and the president’s order have kept the fate of TikTok hanging in the balance.
Apple and Google have declined to comment on the matter. Android users were able to access TikTok directly from the app’s website earlier this week. However, when searching for the app on the platforms, users were met with messages indicating that downloads are paused due to US legal requirements.
