Perplexity Unveils Deep Research AI Tool with Human-Like Insights

Perplexity, an AI company, has released a new feature called Deep Research, which provides in-depth answers with real citations for professional use cases. This tool is designed to excel at expert-level tasks in finance, marketing, and product research.

Deep Research can be accessed through Perplexity’s web platform and will soon be added to its mobile apps. To use it, users select “Deep Research” from a drop-down menu, which generates a detailed report that can be exported as a PDF or shared as a Perplexity Page.

Perplexity claims that Deep Research “iteratively searches, reads documents, and reasons about what to do next,” similar to how humans research new topics. The tool has performed well on the Humanity’s Last Exam AI benchmarking test, scoring 21.1%. Its performance is comparable to OpenAI’s Deep Research, but with a lower subscription price.

Perplexity offers free access to its Deep Research tool for non-subscribers, who can get an unspecified number of queries per day. Paid subscribers receive unlimited queries. Perplexity also highlights its speed and accessibility advantages compared to other deep research products.

However, some experts warn that relying too heavily on AI-powered research tools could limit human creativity and lead to reduced opportunities for new ideas.
