Amazon is hosting a devices event on February 26, starting at 10AM ET, and it’s expected to be a significant one. The company typically launches new products in the fall, but this early event suggests that there’s more to come than just minor updates. With its hardware chief, Panos Panay, and devices team in attendance, it’s likely that new gadgets will be showcased.
The main focus of the event is expected to be on the long-awaited next-gen Alexa. After several delays since its announcement in 2023, Amazon has promised a significant AI-powered refresh. The company claims that the new LLM-powered Alexa will be able to process nuance and ambiguity like a person and intelligently take action.
As for dedicated hardware, it’s likely that the new Echo devices will be accompanied by the long-promised next-gen Alexa. An upgrade to the Echo Buds earbuds is also possible, as well as updates to the Echo Frames glasses, which have seen significant development in the smart glasses space over the past year and a half.
On the other hand, there are a few things that Amazon might not be expected to unveil at this event. Since it recently introduced new Kindles, an e-reader launch seems unlikely. Similarly, while new Fire tablets might be on the horizon, they don’t fit with the overall Alexa theme.
With Amazon’s devices and services team in attendance, we can expect some exciting updates to come out of this event.
