The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is showcasing its dominance in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, with five of the top six seeds announced by the selection committee on Saturday. If the season ended today, the SEC would have three of the top four seeds and five of the top six teams.
Auburn, Alabama, and Florida are set to receive No. 1 seeds, while Auburn will face Alabama in a high-stakes matchup later this week. The Tigers’ unanimous No. 1 overall seed was confirmed by selection committee chair Bubba Cunningham, who noted that Alabama has two games remaining against Auburn and a tough schedule ahead.
Tennessee takes the top No. 2 seed spot, with Cunningham praising the Vols for their strong performance. Texas A&M rounds out the top six at No. 6, narrowly missing out on the top five spots.
The SEC is poised to break the record for the most teams in the men’s tournament, potentially sending up to 13 teams to the postseason. The conference’s dominance is evident, with a combined total of 11 top-16 seeds alongside the Big 12 and Big Ten conferences.
