Blevyns Brown, also known as “BB,” was more than just a high school football player or baseball coach – he was a mentor to many, including senior wrestling champion Traven Sharon. The two were born in the same year, grew up together, and shared a deep bond of faith and rodeo culture.
Traven’s path to becoming the 35th four-time CHSAA state wrestling champion was marked by memories of his time with “BB.” The two would often rope steers after practice, ride them until they were done, and then have ice cream together. BB was more than just a friend; he was Traven’s role model and biggest fan.
BB played quarterback at Crowley County High School and was an outstanding baseball player, hitting .373 with 31 steals in 42 varsity games. He also coached football to Traven Sharon, who was his star student-athlete. BB’s death in a single-car crash on October 15, 2023, left a scar on the community.
Traven’s championship win marked a special moment for him and his family. His grandma, Loretta Sharon, recalled that “BB” and Traven had a strong bond, besides their faith. The loss of BB still brings challenges, but Traven says it has given him perspective on life. He believes that success is not the most important thing, but rather living life to the fullest.
Traven’s message to his fans and those who knew “BB” is one of perseverance and gratitude for every moment. As he moves forward with his wrestling career and rodeo team in Wyoming, Traven holds onto the lessons learned from his best friend and mentor, “BB.”
