The New York Jets are likely to release wide receiver Davante Adams due to his $38.3 million salary cap hit for the 2025 season. ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that while Adams is signed for two more years, he won’t have to request his release. The team would clear $29.9 million if they cut him, allowing them to renegotiate or move on.
Adams has expressed a desire to test free agency for the first time, which suggests he prefers to be released rather than stay with the team and try to rework his contract. The Jets are also moving on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers and have a new head coach and general manager.
Other receivers like Allen Lazard may face similar challenges if they’re not producing enough to justify their salaries. However, Adams remains a productive receiver who can still make an impact with another team. Despite being 32, he has a strong resume that includes six Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro First Team nods.
