The US Department of Government Efficiency Service (USDS), also known as the DOGE, has dismissed dozens of employees amid a wave of restructuring across the government’s workforce. The exact number of fired employees is unclear, but one source estimates that around 50 people were let go.
The firings come after President Trump signed an executive order to remake USDS into a more efficient organization, led by billionaire Elon Musk. However, this shift has largely left legacy employees sidelined and has raised concerns about the impact on efficiency and effectiveness.
USDS was established during the Obama administration to help federal agencies with technology issues. The organization had a headcount of over 200 employees before the recent restructuring. Trump’s efforts have aimed to reduce waste and abuse in the government, but some critics argue that firing skilled employees is counterproductive to this goal.
“I hope this helps anyone who still foolishly thought this was about ‘efficiency’ finally catch up,” said Mikey Dickerson, the first administrator of USDS. The White House has yet to comment on the current leadership of USDS or the number of dismissed employees.
