Chappelle Speaks Out About ‘SNL’ Restrictions During San Francisco Set

Comedian Dave Chappelle addressed the topics that “Saturday Night Live” forbade him from discussing when he hosted the show in January, including Gaza and transgender people. During a recent set at the Masonic in San Francisco, Chappelle shared his experiences with the audience.

Chappelle initially declined to host “SNL” after the 2020 presidential election but eventually accepted. He discussed politics, joking about both Trump and Biden, and mentioned that he voted for them in their respective elections. However, when it comes to sensitive topics like Gaza and transgender people, Chappelle was restricted from speaking out.

Chappelle has spoken candidly about his views on these topics before. During his set at the Masonic, he targeted Diddy and made jokes about the 2020 LA wildfires. He also paid tribute to President Jimmy Carter by recalling an image of him walking in Palestine with little security, which moved Chappelle to tears.

In a message directed at Trump, Chappelle emphasized the importance of empathy and humanity for displaced people worldwide. He urged Trump to do better next time and reminded him that “the whole world is counting on” him.
