SNL Hosts Who Went to Trial or Were Charged with Murder

Saturday Night Live celebrated its 50th anniversary special on Sunday, featuring a monologue from Steve Martin and John Mulaney. The comedy duo joked about the 894 hosts who have appeared on the show over the years, noting that only two were accused of murder.

Mulaney specifically mentioned O.J. Simpson, who hosted in 1978, and Robert Blake, who hosted in 1982. Both men were involved in high-profile murders, although they were ultimately acquitted or charged but cleared due to lack of evidence.

Simpson was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994. However, he was later found liable in a civil lawsuit and ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.

Blake was charged with the murder of his wife Bonny Lee Bakley in 2001 but was acquitted by a jury. However, he was still found liable in a civil wrongful death lawsuit.

The most surprising speculation surrounding SNL’s hosts came from Alec Baldwin, who has hosted more than anyone in show history at 17 times. Baldwin attended the live special despite facing scrutiny over his involvement in the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Another guest host, Robert Wagner, was also under investigation decades ago for his possible role in Natalie Wood’s tragic death in 1981. However, no charges were ever filed against him.
