Microsoft’s Multi-Platform Push Brings Xbox to Rivals’ Consoles

Microsoft is shifting its focus towards multi-platform gaming, featuring rival consoles in its Xbox showcases. In recent months, the company has included PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox Series X and S, PC, and Game Pass in its events. This approach contrasts with Sony’s stance on not mentioning Xbox at all during its State of Play showcase.

According to Microsoft gaming boss Phil Spencer, the changes are part of a deliberate strategy to prioritize games over console exclusivity. Spencer stated that the company wants to be transparent about where games will release and provide equal access to its games across various platforms. This approach aims to emphasize the importance of games as the core focus for the Xbox ecosystem.

In an interview with XboxEra, Spencer explained that the decision to feature rival consoles in Xbox showcases was made after a discussion last year, but ultimately couldn’t be finalized due to asset constraints. He emphasized the need for transparency and open communication with the gaming community.

As a result, Microsoft’s future Xbox showcases may feature logos from PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, alongside Xbox exclusives like Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty. It remains to be seen if Sony and Nintendo will adopt this approach in their own events.
