No. 3 Duke cruised past Virginia 80-62 on Monday night, led by freshman star Cooper Flagg’s 17 points and 14 rebounds. The Blue Devils shot 53% from the field and outrebounded the Cavaliers 41-21 to secure a convincing win.
Flagg’s impressive performance marked his seventh double-double of the season before halftime, as Duke won three straight games since their lone conference loss on February 8. Kon Knueppel added 17 points for Duke, while Andrew Rohde led Virginia with 15 points and five assists.
The game was a dominant display by Duke, who opened the second half with an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Cavaliers had won three straight games but were unable to match up with Duke’s defense.
The win marked the end of a streak in which Virginia-Duke games had margins of victory greater than 10 points over the past decade, although Duke still has some work to do to regain its former rivalry dominance. With this win, No. 3 Duke looks strong heading into their next matchup against Illinois at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
