President-elect Donald Trump is forming a new group called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to reduce wasteful spending and streamline federal agencies. The group, led by entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, seeks highly intelligent individuals willing to work 80+ hours a week for free.
The group’s mission is to identify areas where government waste and inefficiency can be reduced, with the goal of saving billions or trillions of dollars over time. DOGE plans to focus on areas such as healthcare, national defense, and tax policies, and will also tackle fraud at the federal level.
Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, has welcomed the initiative, stating that it is long overdue due to the government’s cumbersome bureaucracy and fiscal imbalances. She emphasizes the importance of bipartisan collaboration to ensure the success of the effort.
The group will review top applicants from across the country, with Musk confirming that the work will be challenging but unpaid. Trump has likened the project to the Manhattan Project, a highly ambitious endeavor aimed at reducing government waste and improving efficiency.
