Auburn’s men’s basketball team has secured its spot as the top-ranked team in The Associated Press Top 25 poll, holding onto its No. 1 ranking for a sixth consecutive week. The Tigers received 59 of 60 first-place votes, reclaiming nearly all the support they lost following their loss to Florida on February 8.
Auburn’s win over Alabama in a high-stakes road matchup pushed them back into the top spot despite seeing some first-place votes shift towards the Crimson Tide. However, the Tigers remain the favorite, with Auburn coach Bruce Pearl’s team poised for success as the NCAA tournament draws near.
The latest rankings have Florida and Duke tied for third place, with the Gators taking over the No. 2 spot after inching past the Blue Devils. Alabama fell to fourth, while Houston and Tennessee made their first top-10 appearances of the season. Other notable teams include Texas A&M, Iowa State, and St. John’s.
Michigan had a strong rise this week, climbing eight spots to No. 12 after defeating Purdue and extending its winning streak to six games. Missouri jumped six spots, while Wisconsin, Clemson, and Maryland each rose five spots.
On the other hand, Memphis took the biggest tumble of the week, falling eight spots to No. 22 after an overtime loss at Wichita State. Several other teams also fell in the rankings, including Purdue, Arizona, and Kansas.
Notably, Auburn was listed as the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament’s preliminary rankings earlier this week. The Tigers’ strong performance has solidified their position as one of the top teams in the country.
