Wizards Unveils Massive Final Fantasy Set for Magic: The Gathering

Wizards of the Coast is shaking up the Magic: The Gathering format with its 2025 plans, which include a significant reduction in multiverse sets to three per year. However, fans will still get plenty of new content with the Universes Beyond initiative, which now gains three sets each year.

The most exciting news comes from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy set, featuring over 55 legendary characters on collectible borderless art cards. This set draws inspiration from across the iconic franchise and is expected to delight both casual and serious fans.

In terms of gameplay, this Standard-legal set introduces new mechanics like Saga Creatures, which evolve over time and gain new abilities as their power increases. Double-faced cards are also returning, showcasing “characters, minigames, story moments, and more.”

The Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy set is set to release on June 13, with a special announcement planned during the upcoming MagicCon fan convention in Chicago starting February 21.
