The head of the FDA’s food division, Jim Jones, resigned on Monday after stating that widespread cuts across the agency make it challenging to meet President Trump’s desired changes. The terminations include 89 staffers, which Jones described as “indiscriminate.” Jones cited his inability to continue working due to the administration’s disdain for the people needed to implement changes.
Jones led a successful push to ban red dye No. 3 and previously worked with former President Joe Biden on this issue. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s new Health and Human Services secretary, has taken office, and Marty Makary is nominated to lead the FDA.
