Bayern Munich Edge Celtic in Thrilling Last-Gasp Win

Bayern Munich secured their spot in the Champions League last 16 with a thrilling 1-1 draw against Celtic at Allianz Arena. The German giants came from behind to win on aggregate 3-2, thanks to substitute Alphonso Davies’ late goal.

Celtic had dominated the early stages of the game, but Bayern’s former reserve player Nicolas Kuhn gave them a surprise lead just past the hour mark. Kuhn’s ice-cool finish levelled the tie on aggregate and left the hosts reeling.

However, Bayern dug deep to avoid extra time, with Davies bundling home a rebound from close range in the fourth-minute of stoppage time to seal a 3-2 success on aggregate. The visitors had created several gilt-edged openings but could not find the net before Kuhn’s goal.

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany was relieved to have escaped the tie, saying “This is not Celtic bias… we should have got extra time.” Celtic boss Neil Lennon echoed his sentiments, praising his team’s performance but acknowledging their failure to get extra time.

The win marked Bayern’s 17th consecutive Champions League knockout appearance and sets up a draw against either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen next.
