Kevin Durant Explains Spiked Trade to Warriors

NBA star Kevin Durant revealed why he spiked trade talks with the Golden State Warriors, citing a desire not to move mid-season as the reason. In an interview with ESPN, Durant said he didn’t want to “rerun” his time with the Warriors after facing criticism from fans and media.

Durant’s comments came after speculation about his motivations for declining the proposed trade, which would have sent him back to Golden State in exchange for Jimmy Butler and other assets. The Phoenix Suns’ star player had been linked to a return to the Warriors, but ultimately decided against it.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged that Durant’s decision was understandable, given the criticism he faced when joining the team as a free agent in 2016. “He took so much s*** for like, ‘Oh, you’re jumping on the bandwagon’,” Kerr said. Despite being one of the NBA’s most effective scorers at 36 years old, Durant has struggled to find consistency with the Suns, who are currently out of playoff contention.

The trade talks broke down, and the Warriors instead traded Butler to the San Francisco 49ers. With one year remaining on his contract after this season, Durant is likely thinking about his long-term plans and what’s best for his career.
